The historic Museum Ship LILAC is the only steam-powered lighthouse tender left in America. There are many things she needs, large and small. Right now, she needs a new deck awning to facilitate activities during the dog days of summer and when it’s spritzing rain. Help keep visitors from melting on the deck by contributing to the Raise the Awning fund. We need $3,000.

Launched on May 26, 1933, LILAC carried supplies to lighthouses and maintained buoys for the U.S. Lighthouse Service and then the U.S. Coast Guard until she was decommissioned in 1972. LILAC is currently being restored to run on steam again as a unique vehicle for maritime education and community activities and is berthed at Hudson River Park’s Pier 25 in New York City. The ship is open to the public on weekends and for special events through the summer for tours and cultural activities.
